Spreading Kindness and Inclusivity with Special Olympics Minnesota
When we partner with nonprofits, we search for an organization that shares the same values we build our credit union around: Kindness, inclusion, caring, and diversity. Special Olympics Minnesota puts all of those values into practice, and we’ve shared a partnership since 2008 to support the athletes and the organization.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Special Olympics Minnesota’s mission is for people with intellectual disabilities to transform themselves, their communities and the world through athletic, health and leadership programs.
To help support the more than 8,000 Special Olympics athletes here in Minnesota, Affinity Plus and our members have donated more than $650,000 since 2008 through the annual Polar Plunge event and other initiatives.
Every year, more than 100 employees plunge into freezing winter waters in lakes around Minnesota, earning the pledges they received for the event.
Our funds provide direct support for:
- More than 8,000 Minnesotan Special Olympics athletes
- Supported more than 92 competitions annually
Jumping in with both feet:
In 2023, Affinity Plus joined forces with Special Olympics Minnesota and Fox 9 to help grow participation in the Polar Plunge, Special Olympics Minnesota’s largest annual fundraising event.
Through its Polar Plunge “jumpstart” campaign, Affinity Plus incented new plungers to register for the event with the promise of a first donation to jumpstart their fundraising efforts courtesy of Affinity Plus.
In total, more than 2,200 plungers answered the call, resulting in an added contribution of more than $110,000 to Special Olympics Minnesota! What’s more, those plungers went on to collectively raise more than $900,000 for the cause! Imagine the impact!
