Supervisory Committee

Appointed by the Board of Directors, the Supervisory Committee is composed of credit union member volunteers. The Committee ensures financial statements accurately represent the financial conditions of the credit union and that management has sound policies and procedures in place to safeguard member assets.

    Leslie Nagel

    Leslie Nagel recently retired following a distinguished career, culminating in her role as the Internal Audit Director at the Minnesota Teachers Retirement Association (TRA) in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Leslie built her foundation as an audit manager for LarsonAllen LLP (now CliftonLarsonAllen), where she specialized in audits of employee benefit plans. In this capacity, she provided quality technical review of audits, conducted firm-wide training on employee benefit plans, and analyzed service providers' internal control reports for firm-wide use. Her broad experience prior to internal and external auditing included various accounting positions for a multi-specialty physician organization and other organizations.  She holds a B.A. in Business Administration – Accounting and attained several key professional certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). She also dedicated time to professional service, previously serving as president of the Association of Public Pension Fund Auditors.

    Martha Guthmiller

    Martha L. Guthmiller was appointed to the Supervisory Committee in March of 2017, and she has served as the committee's Co-Chair in the past. She has been a member of Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union since 1987. She worked for 30 years at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, working in nursing leadership, finances, and budgets. She has volunteer work experience with Rochester public schools, Pax Christi Church, the city of Hawley, MN and Essentia Health. She currently lives with her husband in Hawley, Minnesota, and is working in Nursing Professional Development and Education at Essentia Health in Fargo, North Dakota. She has both a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Winona State University, and a Doctoral degree from Augsburg College.

    Felipe G. Illescas is a seasoned government affairs and public policy professional with over 13 years of experience in lobbying, legislative strategy, and political advising. Currently serving as a lobbyist for the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild and the Minnesota Nursery & Landscape Association, he has a proven track record of influencing public policy at all levels of government. Felipe has held senior roles in state government, including as Tax Policy Advisor to Governor Tim Walz, and has led legislative initiatives on behalf of labor unions, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations. He brings a deep understanding of tax policy, workforce development, and coalition building, and is recognized for his ability to navigate complex political landscapes. Bilingual in English and Spanish, Felipe holds a Master of Science in Management with a concentration in Leadership and Change.

    Born and raised in Togo, West Africa, Syntyche Koumaglo moved to Minnesota in 2011 to pursue her Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduation, she joined Cummins, where she currently is a Service Training Developer and Instructor for Power Generation products globally. Syntyche loves to encourage diversity in the engineering field and currently serves as the Vice President for the Society of Women Engineers — MN section. An avid designer of her life, you can find her in a Salsa dance class, singing at the top of her lungs in spinning classes, then calming down on the Reformer (Pilates). To add even more variety to her life, she is currently taking cello lessons. And, if you are ever looking for the best viennoiserie in the Twin Cities, don't hesitate to ask her! Syntyche is delighted to serve on the Supervisory Committee as of August 2022.

    Richard McMullen

    Committee Member
    Richard and his wife Karen have been members of Affinity Plus for over 15 years. Richard's professional background is in information technology management and engineering, with experience in financial services, healthcare, higher education, and wholesale distribution industries. Richard has a BA and an MA from Metropolitan State University, both focused on Ethnic Studies. Richard and Karen have lived in Stillwater, Minnesota since 1990.
