Building Boats and Dreams
Urban Boatbuilders is a social enterprise that works to empower underserved youth in the Twin Cities to succeed in work and life through woodworking and experiential learning. Their programs are a way for youth to learn essential life skills outside of the traditional classroom setting
Last fall, the Affinity Plus Foundation provided a grant of $15,000 to Urban Boatbuilders to allow them the opportunity to expand their Partnership Program opportunity to two local schools or nonprofit organizations – expanding the impact of this grant well beyond the walls of Urban Boatbuilders alone.
Through its Partnership Program, Urban Boatbuilders provides a mobile hands-on learning and problem solving experience through a semester-long interactive boat building experience. This unique opportunity is made available to schools and nonprofits looking for new and exciting learning opportunities for its students or constituents, and the Foundation was proud to help them expand their efforts.
At Urban Boatbuilders, these youth aren’t just building boats, they are building skills to turn their dreams into reality.
