Introduction
[00:00:00] Danielle:
Welcome back to the A + U Podcast. Uh, I'm your host Danielle,
[00:00:04] Amber:
And I'm your co-host, Amber.
[00:00:05] Danielle:
Today is probably the most fun episode we're we've done
[00:00:09] Amber:
Well, because we have a member in it, of course, right?
[00:00:12] Danielle:
Oh, yes, yes. Let's see if you can figure it out. Amber, what is the last concert you've been to?
[00:00:18] Amber:
Katie Perry.
[00:00:19] Danielle:
Oh, that was just like, just a few weeks ago,
[00:00:22] Amber:
But I didn't go in Minnesota.
[00:00:24] Danielle:
Oh my gosh.
[00:00:24] Amber:
I went to Vegas.
[00:00:26] Danielle:
You're so extra. And I live for that.
[00:00:30] Amber:
It was really extra in Vegas.
[00:00:32] Danielle:
Oh my gosh. Well, like, mine's not even that great. 'cause I went to Well it is great. I, uh, went to Lower Town Sounds.
[00:00:41] Amber:
Oh, that is really nice.
[00:00:43] Danielle:
So I went to that one. Okay. But like, that's live music. But the last, like, live music. Okay. If you're gonna flex, I'll flex. I went to Taylor Swift when she was here.
[00:00:52] Amber:
I mean,
[00:00:52] Danielle:
In 23. Twice
[00:00:54] Amber:
Lower Town Sounds. Oh wow. Okay.
[00:00:56] Danielle:
I went Friday and Saturday.
[00:00:58] Amber:
That might put my Vegas concert to shame.
[00:01:01] Danielle:
I dunno, I dunno. I hear Katy Perry's pretty theatrical.
[00:01:05] Amber:
It was pretty neat. Um, between her and Pink, they're probably really,
[00:01:10] Danielle:
I've seen Pink
[00:01:11] Amber:
Great concerts
[00:01:12] Danielle:
And she like flips.
[00:01:13] Amber:
She does flip.
So does Katy Perry.
[00:01:15] Danielle:
She does?
[00:01:16] Amber:
She does. She goes in the Sphere thing. It's really epic.
[00:01:19] Danielle:
See, it's so cool. Okay.
[00:01:20] Amber:
I'm not that cool.
[00:01:21] Danielle:
Well...
[00:01:22] Amber:
One day I am going to be that cool. I'm not
Meet Our Guest: Nur-D, Minneapolis Music Legend
[00:01:25] Danielle:
Amber. When you flip in the Sphere thing, I'll be there to cheer you on.
Okay. Well, the reason we're talking music, which probably seems very random, which is not that off base, but the reason we're talking music is because we have a special guest. He is a member and a local artist. Welcome to the podcast. Nur-D.
[00:01:48] Nur-D:
Hello. Thank you for having me. I am. That was a lot. I couldn't, I was trying to hold back my laughter for the, for the intro, but wow.
We need to get a sphere in here so that we can all be a part of this.
[00:02:01] Danielle:
I know. I, I wanna see, I'm like on this now, Amber.
[00:02:04] Nur-D:
Let, go. Some arial acrobats.
[00:02:07] Amber:
It might happen
[00:02:10] Nur-D:
We are taking this podcast to the next level.
[00:02:13] Danielle:
Okay, so what's your live music Flex?
[00:02:15] Nur-D:
Oh man. Well, I also saw Taylor Swift while she was here. It's fantastic concert.
[00:02:20] Danielle:
Amazing.
[00:02:20] Nur-D:
Oh, it was wonderful. I,
[00:02:22] Danielle:
were you there friday or Saturday?
[00:02:23] Nur-D:
Uh, we were there Saturday.
[00:02:25] Danielle:
So you were there for Dear John?
[00:02:26] Nur-D:
Yes.
[00:02:27] Amber:
Whoa,
[00:02:28] Nur-D:
It was wild. It was wild. People were in it. It was just, it was powerful. It was a good, I've never seen a show that big run so smoothly.
[00:02:35] Danielle:
It was wild.
[00:02:36] Nur-D:
That was the thing that really impressed me.
Like the tech crew, the band, the dancers. Like every spot was hit. Every like there was, if there was any mistakes you, you would never know.
[00:02:46] Danielle:
You'd never know. That's amazing.
[00:02:47] Nur-D:
She brings with her like a small village.
[00:02:49] Danielle:
Seriously. Did you? Okay. I mean, not to get all like Taylor Swift.
[00:02:53] Nur-D:
Yeah, yeah.
[00:02:53] Danielle:
But did you see her book? And see.
[00:02:56] Nur-D:
nm-hmm.
[00:02:56] Danielle:
So if the book from the tour
[00:02:58] Nur-D:
Yeah.
[00:02:58] Danielle:
In the back there's like a page and it says like, day one day of like her setup leading up to the concert. And it shows like a ti... Well it's in a book so it's not time lapse.
[00:03:07] Nur-D:
Yeah.
[00:03:07] Danielle:
But it's a picture lap of like the setup. And I was like, wow.
It is truly like,
[00:03:12] Nur-D:
yeah man.
That's so cool.
[00:03:13] Danielle:
It is wild.
[00:03:14] Nur-D:
Yeah, no, I like, so, uh, my wife loves Taylor Swift and so we have. I have learned a lot more about Ms. Taylor since being a part of that community.
I gotta say,
[00:03:24] Amber:
Being a swifty.
[00:03:25] Nur-D:
Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I gotta say like, yeah, the girl puts on a concert, you know, you wanna play around, the girl knows what she's doing.
[00:03:31] Danielle:
Mm-hmm.
[00:03:31] Nur-D:
So, yeah. No, I, that was, that was my most recent big, big, massive concert though. I did see Stevie Wonder most recently.
[00:03:39] Amber:
Oh, wow.
[00:03:39] Nur-D:
And George Clinton.
[00:03:41] Danielle:
Wow.
[00:03:41] Nur-D:
Which was both very, very fantastic. It was, uh, just music royalty. Being able to sit and experience that in my own community was pretty powerful.
[00:03:52] Danielle:
Yeah. That's so cool. Well, I mean, you're an artist yourself.
[00:03:55] Nur-D:
I am.
[00:03:56] Danielle:
And you're a member of Affinity Plus.
[00:03:58] Nur-D:
I am. Both of those things.
[00:04:00] Danielle:
Both of those things. And if I understand this right, correct me if I'm wrong.
[00:04:03] Nur-D:
Mm-hmm.
[00:04:04] Danielle:
But you spoke at an all employee day.
[00:04:06] Nur-D:
I did,
[00:04:06] Amber:
Yeah.
Why did Nur-D become a member?
[00:04:06] Danielle:
And then is that what inspired you to be a member?
[00:04:09] Nur-D:
No. Okay. So funny enough, that wasn't what inspired me to be a member. Um. My relationship with Affinity Plus started with my wife when we had just, we had just gotten married. We just moved into a new spot and we were talking about what we were gonna do with our finances. And I was in a traditional bank.
I had been watching the differences between how she was interacting with you guys and how I was interacting with my people. And she was always like, oh, they were so kind and da, da, da. And the person would go, she would like call and someone would talk to them, and it was like, and I was just like, wow.
That. It's different. That's interesting. You know, and then I had this really just negative experience with the wagon individuals and I was like, you know what, let me just, let me just try this other thing. Lemme try Affinity. My wife seems to be really loving it. I, I'll try it out and I'll put some money in and see what's going on.
And ever since then, it was almost immediate change of just how I was treated, how the services went, like me, and being able to walk in, just walking into the building was different. And I just took all my money outta the other place, ran over to you guys, and now I've just been able, anytime I have a chance to talk to people about it, I take my time because I'm like, Hey, uh.
I know people are gun shy about financial institutions sometimes, but when you have a group of people who actually seem to care, it's nice.
[00:05:26] Danielle:
Mm-hmm.
[00:05:27] Nur-D:
And so that's how I got involved with Affinity and then being able to do like the, the, the, the employee day and talk to you guys and that kind of stuff is cool.
[00:05:36] Amber:
Goodness. When was that? All Employee day? I was there.
[00:05:39] Nur-D:
Yeah.
[00:05:39] Amber:
Was it our virtual one?
[00:05:40] Nur-D:
Um,
[00:05:41] Amber:
I,
[00:05:41] Nur-D:
it was.
[00:05:42] Danielle:
2020.
[00:05:42] Nur-D:
Yeah. 2020.
[00:05:43] Amber:
Oh yeah. Right before
our virtual one.
[00:05:46] Nur-D:
Yeah.
[00:05:46] Amber:
Yeah. That was the last get together before the pandemic.
[00:05:49] Nur-D:
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
[00:05:50] Amber:
Oh my goodness.
[00:05:51] Nur-D:
What a time.
[00:05:52] Amber:
Yeah.
[00:05:53] Nur-D:
What a, what a time.
[00:05:56] Amber:
What a time it was.
[00:05:59] Nur-D:
Can you imagine? There's not a whole lot to talk about, 2020 is really interesting.
[00:06:04] Amber:
Yeah,
[00:06:04] Danielle:
that's a whole other podcast.
[00:06:05] Nur-D:
Yeah, it's a different podcast for,
[00:06:07] Amber:
that is a different podcast.
[00:06:09] Nur-D:
No.
Shoutout to the Lakeville Branch
[00:06:10] Danielle:
So is there a certain, like branch, do you have any shout outs that you go to and work with?
[00:06:14] Nur-D:
Uh, yeah. Shout out to the Lakeville branch.
Everybody out there at Lakeville Branch every time I come in, y'all are really cool. You let me take two suckers from the little the dish when it says I can only take one. And that's really nice. I appreciate that. Every time. I remember the first time I went in and I was like, Hey, I need some checks. Like I gotta like buy it, da da da.
They're like, I was like, okay, how much do I, owe you? The person looked at me like, you can just, have these, I was like..
[00:06:35] Danielle:
Oh.
[00:06:37] Nur-D:
And I was just like, oh, okay.
[00:06:40] Danielle:
Thank you so much.
[00:06:40] Nur-D:
And they're like, do you watch some candy? I was like, what won't you do at this point? It was very fun. So shout out to the Lakeville branch. Y'all are really dope over there.
[00:06:50] Danielle:
I love that.
[00:06:51] Amber:
The Lakeville branch is pretty great.
[00:06:54] Nur-D:
There's they dope. They've always been really dope to me. I appreciate that. Also, shout out to the Eagan. There's an Eagan branch, uh, right next to where I go to the doctor. I've had to stop through a few times just 'cause I was close and they're also really cool.
Shout out to you guys.
[00:07:07] Amber:
Those teams work really close together too, so that's awesome.
[00:07:11] Nur-D:
Alright. I can tell that the cool people are in proximity.
[00:07:13] Danielle:
Mm-hmm.
[00:07:14] Nur-D:
I like that a lot.
[00:07:15] Amber:
Oh my goodness. They are going to love hearing that.
[00:07:18] Danielle:
I know, I know.
[00:07:20] Amber:
Past, previous, and future employees of those locations
[00:07:23] Nur-D:
Because I'll walk in like looking like a schlub 'cause I'm in the middle of like errands.
You know when you do music and you're in the public eye a lot, sometimes you have to like, oh, I gotta dress. And you know, you know, we got the purple on today. You know, like I try to match, but when I'm out doing my errands, I'm just kinda like,
[00:07:38] Danielle:
You're just another guy.
[00:07:38] Nur-D:
I'm just another guy. But I never feel like I'm getting looked at weird.
They're like, oh, hey, good to see you. I'm just like, oh, hey, what's up?
[00:07:45] Danielle:
Mm-hmm.
[00:07:46] Nur-D:
My socks don't match.
[00:07:50] Danielle:
So it sounds about right.
[00:07:51] Nur-D:
Yeah. Yeah. No, it's nice.
[00:07:53] Amber:
So you're not judging the socks. It's alright.
[00:07:55] Nur-D:
Not judging the socks.
[00:07:55] Danielle:
Hey, you know what, you are a musician, but you're also just a regular person.
[00:07:59] Nur-D:
Yeah, yeah. I'm just a dude sometimes, like most of the time, 90% of the time I'm just a guy.
[00:08:04] Danielle:
You're just a guy.
I love it. So, okay, so you're a musician.
[00:08:08] Nur-D:
Yeah.
Nur-D Explained
[00:08:08] Danielle:
Nur-D. What Nur-D, where does that come from?
[00:08:11] Nur-D:
So, growing up I was a pretty weird kid. I don't know if you could tell that I'm a little, uh, extra.
[00:08:17] Danielle:
Love that for you.
[00:08:18] Nur-D:
I was,
[00:08:18] Amber:
I think you're in good company.
[00:08:19] Nur-D:
There you go. And um, it was just, it was, I was called like a nerd, like a geek. A lot. Like, I like the now like comic books and professional wrestling and video games and all. It's very in vogue now.
[00:08:33] Danielle:
Mm-hmm.
[00:08:33] Nur-D:
So it's really, really cool to, to like all the stuff that million dollar movies, blah, blah, blah, blah. But that, when I was growing up, it was still kind of like a thing that like nerds did.
[00:08:42] Danielle:
Mm-hmm.
[00:08:42] Nur-D:
And so I was called a nerd a lot, or Nur-D a lot. And so when I was growing up, I tried to take that negative and switch it into a positive, like, I am Nur-D. You are right. That is correct. And it is fun. I like it. I like being myself. And so I've taken that and kind of shifted it to be like a rallying cry for people who feel different.
[00:09:02] Danielle:
That's amazing.
[00:09:03] Amber:
Absolutely.
[00:09:04] Danielle:
I love that.
[00:09:05] Amber:
Mm-hmm. I think it, it's so true that you say like it, everyone kind of embraces it. Now I think of like my nephews too, and that's something where it's like, we're Nur-D. It's okay. And it's like, yes it is.
[00:09:17] Nur-D:
Yes, it's, and it's nice. I think that the connection of just.
People in the internet and stuff, like, that's helped. Just being able to be near people who are into the same things as you do.
[00:09:28] Danielle:
Mm-hmm.
[00:09:28] Nur-D:
It, it, it's really cool. So I, I like that a lot and yeah. Nur-D gets to kind of encapsulate
[00:09:33] Amber:
I love that.
[00:09:34] Danielle:
I know, I know. So that, you know, so you kind of talk about like, you know, the, the creation of that, but
[00:09:41] Nur-D:
Mm-hmm.
[00:09:41] Danielle:
Where did some of your like music inspiration come from and
[00:09:43] Nur-D:
Mm. Yeah, I mean, I take my music from life specifically like. Either my lived experiences or someone that I know is lived experience, but also like comic books, video games, tv, things that really impacted me in my like character building.
[00:09:59] Danielle:
Mm-hmm.
[00:09:59] Nur-D:
Like for example, I have a song called Gwen Stacey, which is all about the character Gwen Stacey from the Spider-Man comic book.
[00:10:06] Danielle:
And my husband will know exactly what you're talking about.
[00:10:09] Nur-D:
So I grew up in the 90's and for me it was always Spider-Man and Mary Jane were together. But what I didn't know until much later is when I started reading the books was that there was another ingenue before Mary Jane, and her name was Gwen Stacy. And the, and she had tragically passed away after Green Goblin did some green gobliny things.
[00:10:26] Danielle:
Yeah.
[00:10:27] Nur-D:
And in the comic books,
[00:10:29] Danielle:
I know who that is,
[00:10:29] Amber:
I know who that is.
[00:10:31] Nur-D:
Shout out and, but the, the Death of Gwen Stacey and the subsequent. Coming together of two friends, Mary Jane and Peter Parker, who both lost their friend. Um, love finding love within that loss, and then their relationship, their subsequent marriage and their life together, and that connection of love and loss and grief and connection.
Is powerful and it just because it's spandex suits and swinging around on spiderwebs doesn't make it any less, more beautiful and powerful. And so I write songs about things that impact me that way. And so it's great. The nerd world, the geek world has a lot of beauty in it if you look for it.
[00:11:08] Danielle:
Well, that. I mean, that's beautiful.
[00:11:10] Amber:
It is. It's so summarized very well.
[00:11:13] Danielle:
I know.
[00:11:13] Amber:
Unlike that statement.
[00:11:18] Danielle:
So you're a local artist?
[00:11:19] Nur-D:
Yes.
[00:11:19] Danielle:
You're from the area?
[00:11:20] Nur-D:
Yep. Yep. We're from here. Rosemont originally. Shout out Rosemont. Uh, but I live in, I live in the. Bermuda Triangle of the suburbs right now, which is the Lakeville, Rosemont, Apple Valley, Farmington area. But I, I am a Twin Cities guy through and through like this is my home
[00:11:39] Danielle:
And okay, so you're home.
[00:11:40] Nur-D:
Yeah.
Nur-D on giving back to the community
[00:11:40] Danielle:
And um, I understand you like to give back to the community.
[00:11:44] Nur-D:
I do. Yeah. No, I think that's one of the best things you can do as an artist, as a local like musician. I get my bills paid because people love the art I'm in. The community shows up to see me do the thing that I love to do. I think for anybody in that position, the best thing to do is to give back as much as you can because what an honor, what a privilege that I get to do and live life. I get to live so it makes the most sense for me to give back.
[00:12:11] Amber:
Well, tell us about a mo... like your most recent community give back that you've participated in.
[00:12:16] Nur-D:
I, I mean, like we've worked with the Ronald McDonald House that operates out of here. Uh, it's been great to be able to be a part of their organization.
Um, being able to give back to communities. I work a lot with District 1 9 6. The district that I was, I went to school in and being able to give back to the arts community there just recently. This, uh. A couple months ago we did, it was 25 years of a thing called onstage at Rosemont High School, which is a performing arts, uh, extravaganza.
It's a cabaret that they do. And this year they did an alumni version with everybody within the 25 years of its run.
[00:12:50] Amber:
Oh my goodness.
[00:12:51] Nur-D:
And we were able to raise over $50,000 for the. Arts community, which is really great, you know,
[00:12:57] Danielle:
And super impactful
[00:12:58] Nur-D:
And super impactful. Uh, the arts, especially in schools, especially now, be able to get kids connected to cultures that they aren't necessarily connected with normally.
And like events like art is the way to do that. Songs, languages that they've never heard, you know, stories from other places and other people. And so being able to raise that money to help. Advance that for the next generation of Rose Mont-ians, um, was really powerful for me. I really enjoyed being a part of it.
[00:13:27] Danielle:
That's super cool.
[00:13:28] Nur-D:
Yeah.
Nur-D's new album, Chunkadelic
[00:13:30] Danielle:
Okay, so super cool thing that's coming up. Uh, you are releasing a new album?
[00:13:35] Nur-D:
Yes, I am Chunkadelic, a brand new, it's like a funk, hip hop inspired record. We've been working on it for about a year now, and I'm just really pumped for this to be. And for people to hear.
[00:13:48] Amber:
What's your favorite song title?
[00:13:50] Nur-D:
Ooh, my favorite song
[00:13:52] Amber:
on just this title. On just this album.
[00:13:54] Nur-D:
Ooh, that's a very good one. I mean, Chunkadelic, first of all, I think I'm gonna have to go with the title track. Yeah. Chunkadelic. Um, like I said, I got to see George Clinton, uh, most recently when he was at the, uh, Uptown Theater.
[00:14:06] Danielle:
Mm-hmm.
[00:14:07] Nur-D:
And, uh, getting to meet the team and Parliament Funkadelic, like that whole generationally led team of musicians and artists was super, super powerful. And them being the, like a major catalyst for this record, that music, the funk record that has been around kind of through our community, our music community, Minnesota, has the funk and has had it for quite some time. So it was cool and being able to know like, Hey, I'm gonna be at the Fillmore, um, just on the 25th and talking to them about it.
Being able to be at a similar venue. It was just really cool.
[00:14:44] Danielle:
That's so neat. So I've actually seen you in concert before.
[00:14:46] Nur-D:
Really?
[00:14:47] Danielle:
I saw you at, um, oh, which one was it? There's two breweries in Rochester. Thesis.
[00:14:53] Nur-D:
Yes.
[00:14:53] Danielle:
I get 'em.
I get like the names,
[00:14:54] Nur-D:
I get my that.
[00:14:55] Danielle:
I have think, okay,
this one's located here.
[00:14:57] Nur-D:
Shout out Thesis.
[00:14:58] Danielle:
So I saw you at Thesis Brewery, uh, like last October, I think it was.
[00:15:02] Nur-D:
Oh, wow. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
[00:15:03] Danielle:
So good.
[00:15:04] Nur-D:
That was a lot of fun. That was a fun show.
[00:15:05] Danielle:
It's a fun show and it's an intimate place, but the Fillmore bigger.
[00:15:08] Nur-D:
Yep. We're bringing the whole band, so yeah. Yeah. We have a, I have a whole uh, band.
We have horns. Bass, guitar, dj, drums. The the singers. It's a whole dancing.
[00:15:18] Danielle:
Oh my gosh.
[00:15:18] Nur-D:
It is a full production. I was a theater kid, so you know, I get a little bit of the pageantry.
[00:15:22] Amber:
I love that.
[00:15:23] Danielle:
Love that. Um, that's so cool because I think when I saw you, you had a dj.
[00:15:27] Nur-D:
Yep. Yep. Me and DJ Hayes. And we. We, we travel around just the two of us, but when we get a chance to bring in the, bring in both the noise and the funk, we do
[00:15:36] Danielle:
Do bring it. So it's gonna be, so you said it's on the Fillmore on the 24th?
[00:15:40] Nur-D:
On the 25th.
[00:15:41] Danielle:
25th. I'm sorry.
[00:15:42] Nur-D:
Yes. Yeah.
[00:15:42] Danielle:
Um, Ali will be there. It's on my calendar.
[00:15:44] Nur-D:
It's gonna be super fun.
[00:15:45] Amber:
Well, how about that?
[00:15:46] Nur-D:
Mm-hmm.
[00:15:46] Amber:
Where was my invite?
[00:15:48] Danielle:
Uh, well. I can get you tickets.
[00:15:50] Nur-D:
There you go.
[00:15:51] Danielle:
We, uh, Affinity Plus is sponsoring.
[00:15:54] Nur-D:
Yes. That's one of the really things
[00:15:55] Danielle:
The album release
[00:15:56] Nur-D:
I'm super excited about. I, um, the last time I was at a concert at the Fillmore, it was for, um, say Lawrence, the band Lawrence and Affinity was there and they, and I got to talk to the, some of the people that were there for that.
[00:16:09] Danielle:
Mm-hmm.
[00:16:10] Nur-D:
And it's so cool to be able to be sponsored by the financial institution. Not only that you use, but just it's like putting on so much for the community is that.
It's wild. It's, it is really cool.
[00:16:21] Danielle:
Yeah. So I can get you ticket.
[00:16:22] Amber:
Oh, well
[00:16:23] Nur-D:
Look at that. Come over here.
[00:16:26] Amber:
You don't ask the answer's always no.
[00:16:27] Nur-D:
Exactly. The squeaky wheel gets the grease is what I've been told.
[00:16:31] Danielle:
Mm-hmm.
[00:16:31] Nur-D:
Mm-hmm.
[00:16:31] Amber:
Am I a squeaky wheel? Danielle,
[00:16:33] Danielle:
Amber? No. You're the peanut butter to my jelly.
[00:16:37] Amber:
That's right.
[00:16:37] Nur-D:
Look at that. There it's, look at that. Oh, I love that
[00:16:41] Amber:
You set us up on that one.
[00:16:43] Nur-D:
Am I a squeaky wheel. I've never heard that question with so much accusation, so much threat. It was just, am I a squeaky wheel? That was amazing.
[00:16:53] Danielle:
Not a squeaky wheel at all.
[00:16:54] Nur-D:
It's a melodic wheel. It's not a squeaky it, it's it's melodious, for sure.
[00:17:00] Danielle:
Well, that's super exciting. So how many, what, how many albums have you done?
[00:17:04] Nur-D:
So, uh, Chunkadelic will be my 10th.
[00:17:07] Danielle:
Wow!
[00:17:07] Nur-D:
Yeah. So I've had nine other full length projects before this one, and, uh, this is the first one that I made in a studio that I actually built in St. Paul. So, yeah.
[00:17:17] Amber:
Oh, wow.
[00:17:17] Nur-D:
By hand, me and my dj, we built an entire studio in St. Paul, uh, right on University. It was super, super cool and, uh, to be able to not only build a spot and then perform the, my album in that spot and now. Have this go out to the rest of the world. Just feels a real sense of accomplishment for me.
[00:17:37] Amber:
Oh my goodness. For sure.
[00:17:38] Nur-D:
This record is a, is a big milestone.
Not only is it the 10th, but we made it in a studio. We built ourselves.
[00:17:43] Danielle:
It is your like literal sweat.
[00:17:45] Nur-D:
It is
[00:17:46] Danielle:
Like blood.
[00:17:46] Nur-D:
Everything you hear on this record is, is coming out of my heart, my soul, uh, in a very, very powerful way. And it's great because like we talked about community and we talk about coming together, this record.
Sort of feels like that for me, it feels like at 10 records, my fans have been so supportive. The people have been with me so much and to be able to now give them more content, 10 albums worth of music is wild. I was just a kid like from Rosemont and to think that I am now here, I got, I'm doing something on this podcast with you guys and people want to hear.
This weird kid sing and dance.
[00:18:25] Danielle:
This Nur-D kid,
[00:18:26] Nur-D:
This Nur-D kid sing and dance. It is, it is just really humbling in the most beautiful way.
[00:18:30] Amber:
Oh, I wanna ask what, okay. You can,
[00:18:32] Nur-D:
mm-hmm.
[00:18:33] Amber:
Can you share a line from Chunkadelic? I mean,
[00:18:36] Nur-D:
Oh man,
[00:18:36] Amber:
a verse or two. I don't know.
[00:18:38] Nur-D:
Oh man. I gotta get, so, so, okay, so Chunkadelic, one of my things I like the most in the second verse.
It says, this is not your grandma's funk, this, that newer stuff. It's something about I think, uh, funk as a genre has, while it's always been around there, has this sort of this sense that, oh, that was this time period. You know what I mean? Oh yeah. Funk disco is all kind of over here. That was fun, but we're kind of off that now.
But the reality is that funk is alive. This is not your grandma's funk. This is the newest stuff. Like, we're gonna be doing this for you. Um, there is so much power, it's beauty history in this particular genre. I'm, I'm so pumped. I. For people to get fall back in love.
[00:19:25] Amber:
Oh, absolutely.
[00:19:26] Nur-D:
If I can be any part of that.
I know there's so many amazing funk artists all around the world that have been carrying the torch for the, carrying the banner for this for years, decades. But like I'm happy to be, to add my flag to that parade.
[00:19:40] Danielle:
That's awesome.
[00:19:40] Nur-D:
Yeah.
[00:19:41] Danielle:
I love that.
[00:19:41] Nur-D:
Yeah.
[00:19:42] Danielle:
Oh my goodness. Well, I mean, thank you so much for stopping by and
[00:19:46] Nur-D:
Yeah,
[00:19:47] Danielle:
Talking to me.
And Amber,
[00:19:48] Nur-D:
I'm happy to do thanks for having me here. This is dope. Like we just, we just hang it out too. I like that a lot.
[00:19:54] Danielle:
I know. And I cannot wait for the Chunkadelic album release.
[00:20:00] Nur-D:
Yeah.
[00:20:00] Danielle:
On the 25th. You coming?
[00:20:03] Amber:
Well, I don't know. I might be in Duluth.
[00:20:05] Nur-D:
Oh snap. Oh snap after all that
after all the wheel squeaks.
[00:20:09] Amber:
I just would realize what day it was now and what day the 25th is. That's all I know
[00:20:14] Danielle:
I'll be there.
[00:20:15] Nur-D:
Alright. Alright.
[00:20:16] Amber:
We'll see,, I'll, I'll...
[00:20:16] Nur-D:
We'll get a cardboard cut out of you. Switch you off to the side.
[00:20:20] Amber:
Oh man. That would make me feel like
[00:20:21] Nur-D:
In the sphere probably,
[00:20:22] Danielle:
yeah, in the sphere
[00:20:26] Nur-D:
That's how we know.
[00:20:27] Danielle:
You know, maybe we can even get the, that on stage.
[00:20:29] Nur-D:
Yeah, we'll roll it across.
[00:20:30] Danielle:
We'll just like roll the sphere over.
[00:20:32] Nur-D:
Is it really a concert without that at that point?
[00:20:36] Danielle:
Because then you can too say that you've had a sphere.
[00:20:38] Amber:
Yeah.
[00:20:39] Nur-D:
That's honestly the difference between making it and not
[00:20:41] Danielle:
Oh yeah. Right?
[00:20:42] Nur-D:
Or what do I know?
