Building Credit & Confidence: Philip's Story
Affinity Plus helped him feel welcome in America and improve his credit, and the credit union became part of his life in the process.
Philip moved to Minnesota after working as a translator in Iraq. It was there he met Minnesota National Guard soldier Paul, who promised to help Philip get to the United States. In 2013, Paul fulfilled his promise, and Philip came to Minnesota. His family joined him in 2016.
When Philip first arrived, he started banking with two banks, and saw no progress in his credit or his financial situation – despite working five jobs – over the course of two years. Then he heard about Affinity Plus from his friend, who said the credit union would be willing to help him understand his finances and how they could affect his future.
