ST. PAUL, MINN. (December 15, 2021) – Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union (Affinity Plus) is pleased to announce that with the help of members, colleagues and community members, more than $16,000 was raised for the Coins for a Cause initiative, wherein Credit Union members and members of local communities brought donations of loose coin to more than 20 Affinity Plus locations across the state. All donations benefitted Second Harvest Heartland and other Minnesota-based Feeding America food banks. Affinity Plus helped raise money this holiday season to provide meals to families experiencing hunger.

In addition, Affinity Plus matched all contributions, and added an additional donation, bringing the total contribution to $50,000.

More than half a million Minnesotans are experiencing hunger across the state. For every $1 that was donated, it equals 3 meals. With this year’s campaign, the money raised will ultimately provide 150,000 meals to those in need.

“At Affinity Plus, we are committed to helping the most vulnerable in our communities and we recognize the need for food in our communities is evident. Through our Coins for a Cause initiative, we know that the contributions from our members and our communities will help those experiencing hunger, especially around the holidays when the need is typically the greatest,” said Adam Layne, Senior Community Engagement Specialist, Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union. “A little change can make a difference and we are so thankful to everyone who contributed to this initiative this year.”

Donations made went to 1 of the following 6 food banks, depending on community: Second Harvest Heartland, Channel One Regional Food Bank, Second Harvest North Central Food Bank, Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank, North Country Food Bank, and Great Plains Food Bank.

The Coins for a Cause initiative kicked-off on December 6 and ran through December 10 across participating branches throughout the state of Minnesota. On December 10, Affinity Plus also hosted a curbside collection event and rewarded the first 50 donors with Holiday Gift Bags.
