Affinity Plus Helps Fight Hunger By Distributing 7,345 Pounds of Produce
We are all about giving back and paying it forward at Affinity Plus. Doesn’t it feel good to get out in the community and help those in need? A group of Affinity Plus employees spent their afternoon helping fight hunger by partnering with Neighborhood House at Metropolitan State University.
Neighborhood House is a multi-service agency, providing services for people when they need it the most. They help people with basic needs, education, multiple youth programs, and health and well-being. All of the programs offered are free to participants.
On Jan. 28, 2020, more than a dozen Affinity Plus employees helped with the Fresh Produce Distribution. They helped sort and bag a variety of items including: oranges, apples, potatoes, onions, bread and more.
Fresh Produce Distribution is a year-round program, where they distribute large amounts of fresh produce to people and families in need. During each event, they distribute approximately 6,000-12,000 pounds of food to 150-300 families, all within a matter of two hours.
On the volunteer day, Affinity Plus distributed 7,345 pounds of produce to over 150 families. Within those 150 families, we were able to help serve over 730 people with healthy produce. A Neighborhood House representative says volunteering is imperative to making the program a success.
“This program serves many people from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, and represents a free opportunity for families to obtain higher quantities of fresh, healthy produce,” said Anna Dolde, Fresh Produce Distribution Program Coordinator at Neighborhood House. “Having a hard-working group of volunteers as well as the sponsorship of program food supplies makes these events not only possible, but thrive. You help us serve the community, and we are so grateful for your partnership with us.”
