Annual Scholarship Winners

2020–2021

Kathleen

Kathleen Braaten

Duluth, MN

Kathleen is still deciding where to attend college in the fall, but will pursue a degree in the sciences. In high school, Kathleen was a stand-out swimmer while also serving as treasurer of her student government, all while managing a 4.0 GPA. She is also active in her community and with her church. She regularly provides volunteer tutor services through the National Honors Society and enjoys playing the violin through her church’s youth music outreach program at the local nursing home and Hope Gospel Mission.

Kudzwaishe

Kudzwaishe Chisveto

Moorhead, MN

An exchange student from Zimbabwe attending University of Minnesota – Moorhead, Kudzwaishe has been active in many activities that have made her a well-rounded student and citizen. Kudzwaishe enjoys adventure, as she has taken on a number of long-distance athletic challenges and has recently joined the debate team. She is currently pursuing a double major in biochemistry and biotechnology with the hopes of enrolling in medical school.

“Awarding me this scholarship has not only given me the confidence that I am deserving but it has also given me the zeal to strive for excellence in school and continue to contribute in any ways I can to my community.”

Grace

Grace Erholtz

Baxter, MN

An upperclassmen attending Saint Michel’s College in Colchester, VT, Grace is passionate about endurance sports, participating at the collegiate level in both cross-country running as well as Nordic skiing. On top of that, she has achieved incredible academic success while also staying active with music, as a participant of her collegiate string orchestra.

“I think I can also speak for my other peers who received this award by saying just how truly grateful we are that you are giving your generous donations towards helping students earn money for college.”

Emelia

Emelia Hinrichs

Brainerd, MN

Emelia will be a freshman at Gustavus Adolphus next fall who has plans to study chemistry. A leader in a number of capacities during her high school career, Emelia already has made plans to pursue a career in the medical field once finishing her undergraduate degree.

Neva

Neva Knoll

Ham Lake, MN

Neva is an upperclassman at Syracuse University in New York State pursuing a double major in art photography and forensic science. She also finds time to be an active member of the Syracuse Dance Team as well as donating her time and photography background for a number of non-profit organizations in both New York and Minnesota.

“This is a dream come true! It continues my family legacy because both my mom and my dad graduated from Syracuse.”

Emma

Emma Kuboushek

Shakopee, MN

Emma will be an incoming freshman attending the College of Saint Benedict in the fall pursuing a major in nursing and a minor in Spanish. Through both her school and church she has demonstrated a passion for giving back; a highlight for her has been raising funds to purchase parts of prosthetic hands for children overseas who are in need due to tragic accidents.

Beth

Beth Simons

Brainerd, MN

Beth is a graduate student studying Osteopathic Medicine in Ohio. Originally from Brainerd, Beth is passionate about bringing what she’s learned back home upon receiving her degree. She looks forward to helping her community by providing compassionate, patient-centered care to Northern Minnesotans, who are traditionally underserved medically.

“I will receive a medical education and training that will allow me to give back to my community is a big way in a few years, and the receipt of the Affinity Plus Foundation scholarship reminds me that the community is there for me on my journey."

Owen

Owen Tonn

Apple Valley, MN

Owen will be a freshman at Boston College in the fall and plans to study Information Systems Management. Owen is busy, between volunteering with local organizations like Best Buddies and Gillette Children’s Hospital, he also finds time to participate in extra-curricular activities like hockey and choir.

“This scholarship will provide some comfort in knowing I’ve made my first steps in taking control of my financial independence and the overall nervousness that comes with owing such a large sum of money."
