Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union has been committed to helping the most vulnerable in our communities for a long time, and even with COVID-19, there’s no exception. Beginning Monday, Dec. 7 and running through Friday, Dec. 11, Affinity Plus wants *YOUR* help in giving back to those in need.
In partnership with Fox 9, Second Harvest Heartland and other Minnesota food banks, Affinity Plus will be raising money this holiday season to help provide meals to families experiencing hunger. The initiative is called ‘Coins for a Cause.’ Due to the pandemic, demand on local food banks has more than tripled, which means more Minnesota families are going without than any time in recent history. We also continue to experience an ongoing coin shortage across the country.
So, if you’re in a position to help, gather up any spare change you have laying around your house and donate it to a good cause. Together, we can make a difference.
“At Affinity Plus, we’re all about helping people achieve all they want in life, and we know that when families are fighting just to keep food on the table, they can’t focus on their bigger goals,” said Adam Layne, Senior Community Engagement Specialist, Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union. “Right now the need for food in our community is skyrocketing, so we’re excited to encourage our members and non-members alike to gather up any spare change they can afford to give and drop it off at one of our branches. A little bit of change can go a long way when in the hands of local food banks.”
Here’s how it works! During Coins for a Cause, we invite anyone to stop by the ENTRYWAY of our participating branches (full list below) to make a CONTACTLESS donation of loose change or cash. When you do, you can enter for a chance to win a Minnesota resort getaway or a $100 gift card to Cub Foods.
Also, on Friday, Dec. 11, Affinity Plus will host a curbside collection event in the parking lots of our branches and reward the first 50 donors with Holiday Gift Bags from Affinity Plus and Fox 9 which will include a free pass to the GLOW Holiday Festival at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds (valid Dec. 29 only).
There are other ways you can donate, including: by credit/debit card online; MyPlus Rewards Points; or direct transfer from your account. Affinity Plus will also match donations up to $25,000. When you break that number down, that’s more than 75,000 meals!
“We are in the hunger fight of our lives, where today 1 in 8 Minnesotans, including 1 in 5 kids, are facing food insecurity, many of them for the first time,” explained Heather Olson, Corporate Development Officer at Second Harvest Heartland. “We’re distributing 30% more food than we did last year and we’re doing so in new, safe ways. But we can’t do any of this alone, which is why we are so thankful for Affinity Plus hosting the Coins for a Cause campaign to encourage community donations to ensure everyone has the food they need to thrive.”
