Affinity Plus Foundation awards $70,000 in community and cultivator grants across Minnesota

The Affinity Plus Foundation recently announced the recipients of its 2020 Community and Cultivator Grants. Organizations and educators were chosen for their commitment to educating, empowering and engaging individuals and communities across Minnesota in unique and impactful ways.

“At The Affinity Plus Foundation, we are always inspired seeing the creative ways that local organizations, schools and educators engage in our communities. We’re honored to play a part and make a meaningful difference” says Kate Austad, Affinity Plus Foundation Board Chair.

The Community Grant goes to Minnesota 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations focused on engaging, educating and empowering individuals and communities. Community Grant winners each receive $5,000 in support of unique programming that has a positive impact on those they serve. This year, Community Grants went to 10 different organizations.

Cultivator Grant winners each receive $2,000. This year, Cultivator Grants went to 8 different schools and educators. The Cultivator Grant goes to Minnesota schools to support educators who can utilize the funds for materials, curriculum or supplies for new or existing programs. Those programs help school-aged kids through interesting and unique learning opportunities and community-based activities.

Funding supports organizations, schools and activities that have a positive impact – take Southside Family Charter School, for example. The school is a 2020 Cultivator Grant winner. Money received will be used to enhance its existing Southside Sustainable Garden program, which promotes equity and community by granting access to share responsibility and ownership to all students. On top of that, it also provides fresh fruits and vegetables to community members experiencing food insecurity.

“We are excited to invest the gift in iPad tablets to help manage our sustainable garden virtually while improving technological literacy for our disadvantaged students,” said Larry H., teacher, Southside Family Charter School.
