Brainerd Lakes Branch and Vincent’s Vixens have extra inspiration for Polar Plunge
Baxter, Minn. (February 26, 2019) – Affinity Plus – Brainerd Lakes Branch in Baxter, Minn., and Vincent’s Vixens will once again proudly participate in this year’s Polar Plunge on March 2 at Breezy Point Resort benefitting Special Olympics Minnesota.
The Brainerd Lakes team at Affinity Plus has participated in the Polar Plunge for many years. Four years ago the team found extra inspiration to plunge into the freezing cold water from Vincent Stavish, a Special Olympian and son of an Affinity Plus employee, and Vincent’s Vixens was formed. The Vincent’s Vixens 2019 team consists of Heather Backstrom, Kris Dietz, A’lesha Kuschke, Kimberly Paesler and Kelly Stavish. Since 2016, Affinity Plus and Vincent’s Vixens have raised more than $7,000 for Special Olympics Minnesota.
“We are very proud to have Affinity Plus and Vincent’s Vixens be supporters of Special Olympics Minnesota,” said Kelly Stavish, Vincent’s mom, Affinity Plus employee and member of Vincent’s Vixens. “Vincent is an active participant in many Special Olympics events and those events would not be able to go on without the generous donations of our friends and family during the Polar Plunge events. Vincent is very excited to attend this year’s event and cheer his team on!”
Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union, based in St. Paul, Minn., officially partnered with Special Olympics as a “charity of choice” in 2003 and been part of the Polar Plunge since 2007. Dave Larson, President/CEO, Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union, was recently appointed to the board of directors of Special Olympics Minnesota. Special Olympics is the world's largest public health organization for people with intellectual disabilities. Its goal is to bring better fitness, nutrition and healthier lifestyles to their athletes, families, coaches and volunteers.
“Affinity Plus has been a steadfast supporter of Special Olympics,” said Heather Backstrom, Branch Manager, Affinity Plus – Brainerd Lakes Branch and member of Vincent’s Vixens. “It’s a small sacrifice to jump into a frozen lake, and have fun while doing it, compared to the great impact made on the lives of athletes in Special Olympics. It brings us great joy to participate in the Polar Plunge and support Vincent and this organization dedicated to making a difference.”
