Affinity Plus celebrates new branch for Mankato community with Nov. 17 grand opening

MANKATO, Minn. (Nov. 22, 2017) – Affinity Plus held a grand opening Friday, Nov. 17, for its new Mankato community branch. The daylong celebration welcomed members, employees, partners and the community to tour the new space, hear from leaders and enjoy food and refreshments.

“We serve 5,000 members in the Mankato community. Certainly we look forward to welcoming new members, but this branch is really for those 5,000 members,” said Dave Larson, Affinity Plus President/CEO. “We’re thrilled to see this become a reality.”

Liz Harrison, Mankato branch manager, said members and employees alike have commented over the years about the need for a community branch in Mankato.

“We’re now able to offer a drive-thru, Saturday hours and free, convenient parking,” Harrison said. “And I think we can all agree this was well worth the wait.”

Affinity Plus’s new community branch is the second in Mankato, joining the campus branch at Minnesota State University – Mankato.

Karen Foreman, Affinity Plus board member, reminded attendees of the history – that the credit union started out years ago in a small room open only three days a week in the Student Union at MSU - Mankato.

“And now here we are today,” Foreman said. “The spirit of the credit union has really grown.”

The look and feel of Affinity Plus branches also have changed. Larson shared that one of the first things on the agenda when he became president/CEO four years ago was to determine where and what branch locations were going to look like in the future.

“It’s true more and more people are migrating to technology, but we still understand that opportunities to build face-to-face relationships with members is a very important component. We see that evident here today," Larson said.

The Mankato community branch’s fresh-new look includes an emphasis on an open design and technology including iPads, digital signage and more. The branch also features private office spaces and a gathering space for one or more members.

The new Mankato community branch is the final installment of Affinity Plus’ 2017 lineup of new next-generation community branches featuring the same fresh-new look.

This summer, the Cambridge, Minn,. branch relocated in that community, and the St. Cloud State University remodeled campus branch opened to rave reviews. On Oct. 16, Affinity Plus opened a community branch in New Hope, Minn., as the credit union’s first branch in the western Twin Cities western metro area.
