CAMBRIDGE, Minn. (April 25, 2017) – Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union is completing work on its new Cambridge branch and will open the doors Monday, May 22, just a few hundred yards from its current location.

“We’re not moving far, but we think members are going to be really pleased with their new branch,” said LeAnne Larson, Cambridge branch manager, of the stand-alone building at 1990 2nd Ave. SE, just off Minnesota Highway 95 on the community’s east side. “Our members asked for improvements, and we listened.”

Larson said May 22 will be a “soft” opening as staff begin serving members in the new location, she said. On Wednesday, June 14, Affinity Plus plans grand-opening activities that will include tours, prizes, kid’s activities, lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and local ice-cream truck “The Parlor” from 2-5 p.m.

FEATURES
The credit union spent three months renovating the facility, Larson said. The new branch features:
• a lobby twice as large as the present one, with one additional teller line.
• three drive-thru lanes, including a dedicated, 24-hour ATM lane.
• more private spaces for one-on-one conversations with loan officers, investment specialists and others Affinity Plus staff.

NO SERVICE DISRUPTION
Credit-union staff will be making the move to the new location May 20-21, so the branch will be closed on Saturday, May 20. No member accounts will be impacted by the move, and all accounts information still will be available on Affinity Plus’ mobile app, via online banking and through the website’s live-chat feature.

GREW OUT OF OLD SPACE
The key reason for moving was because “people literally would be lined up out the door to get in,” Larson said. In conversation with staff, members sometimes would share thoughts about trying to get banking done in such a small space.

“We had one member tell us, ‘I love cramming into the Cambridge lobby and looking around to see who I will be after.’ Another joked about arriving early, sitting in her car and then racing into the branch just as we opened our doors,” Larson said.

“It’s gratifying knowing they love their Affinity Plus branch that much, but we definitely recognized we’ve increased the number of members we’re serving. Moving to our new location represents Affinity Plus’ commitment to permanently invest in our members and Cambridge as a community,” she said.

LARSON: BRANCHES KEY PART OF FUTURE
Dave Larson, Affinity Plus President/CEO, said Cambridge is unique in how passionate local residents are about doing business in their branch.

“That kind of dedication demonstrates why branches are still so important. We’re working every day to improve our digital services, because all signs point to online and mobile banking being a huge part of our work in the coming years. But branches continue to be an integral part of the member experience,” Larson said.

He noted that Affinity Plus is on schedule in 2017 to open a new community branch in Mankato; a renovated branch on the St. Cloud State University campus; and a much-anticipated branch in New Hope, Minn., in the western suburbs of the Twin Cities.
