ST. PAUL, Minn. (Oct. 20, 2016) – The Affinity Plus Foundation is supporting financial education programming for the Twin Cities Latino community through a grant to Comunidades Latinas Unidas en Servicio, or CLUES.
CLUES’ mission is to advance the capacity of Latino families to be healthy, prosperous and engaged in their communities. The non-profit organization connects these families to resources, skills, institutions and systems in Minnesota.
The organization gives everyone served the opportunity to thrive as active citizens and consumers, said Eduardo Barrera, CLUES economic vitality division director.
Grant funds will be used to support the bilingual financial-education component of their Financial Empowerment program. The program helps participants learn more about managing their personal finances, while also helping them better manage financial issues specific and relevant to the Latino community, Barrera said.
The grant “will help us increase our capacity to provide financial-educational programming to the Latino community. The people who utilize our programming and services become more informed consumers and make wise financial decisions in their lives,” he said.
Minnesota’s Latino population has grown to almost 300,000, and there is a need for increased financial literacy resources to help community members succeed, said Amy Hanson, Affinity Plus executive director.
“Providing CLUES grant support exemplifies our mission as a foundation,” said Hanson. “We know the services and programming they are providing is having a positive impact on those they serve and the local economy.”
