ST. PAUL, Minn. (Oct. 14, 2016) – More than 540 Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union employees spread kindness across Minnesota this week as part of its fourth-annual Plus It Forward Day.
Affinity Plus joined more than 650 staff from 25 additional Minnesota credit unions Monday, Oct. 10, and together they directly assisted nearly 22,000 people in 65 communities statewide.
“More than twelve hundred credit-union staff doing good for other people – it’s amazing how this movement has grown,” said Dave Larson, Affinity Plus president/CEO Larson. “When we work together, it’s remarkable the credit-union power and community commitment we leverage.”
Larson, who spent the day volunteering in St. Cloud, Minn., with Affinity Plus staff, said he looks forward to Plus It Forward Day every year.
“We step away from our day-to-day routines and remind ourselves how kindness transforms everything. It can change someone’s day. It changes lives,” he said.
Affinity Plus founded Plus It Forward Day in 2013 as a day to scatter kindness in communities across Minnesota. Since 2013, Plus It Forward Day has elevated the core cooperative business principles of people helping people and active community engagement, he said.
In several communities, Plus It Forward brought together partners to collaborate on specific volunteer activities. Credit unions in Rochester, Faribault and Alexandria, Minn., worked side-by-side on various initiatives, from serving senior citizens, thanking police departments and firefighters, and participating with large organizations such as Habitat for Humanity.
Larson noted that the Plus It Forward spirit doesn’t end after the day. “We know being kind becomes a way of life for many people, so we encourage people to share kindness every day of the year,” he said.
