New Scholarship Program to Help College Students Live The Dream of Music and Hospitality Careers
Affinity Plus and Music Forward Foundation Team Up for Growing Career Paths
Career opportunities in music and hospitality are growing, and Minnesota students now have access to new scholarships to make their own big break. The new program comes from Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union (Affinity Plus) and Music Forward Foundation
(Music Forward) as part of the launch of the new premier music venue, The Fillmore Minneapolis presented by Affinity Plus.
The partnership adds two new $5,000 scholarships for Minnesota college students or Affinity Plus members studying
out-of-state, pursuing a career related to the music industry. Field of study may include but is not limited to live event operations, production, music engineering, music business management, music education, customer service, hospitality and/or
related fields. Applications are open now through March 31. Scholarship award recipients will be announced in June 2020.
The new scholarships demonstrate the power of partnership, with collaboration from:
Affinity Plus Foundation: Offering more than $70,000 in scholarships for students in any field in traditional, non-traditional and graduate degree paths, with a significant portion dedicated to students on campuses with an Affinity Plus branch.
Music Forward Foundation: Awarding four $10,000 scholarships to outstanding college students in conjunction with Live Nation Entertainment and the Living Legacy Foundation.
“We continue to invest in our members and communities, and we’re thrilled to add these new scholarships for our members and local students – as well as increase access to Music Forward’s national giving program,” said Dave Larson, CEO of Affinity Plus.
Nurit Smith, executive director for the Music Forward Foundation said, “We are honored to be partnering with Affinity Plus on this new scholarship for Minnesota youth focused on careers in the music industry. It’s important to ensure that all young people have access and opportunity into this substantial multi-billion dollar industry. And with this scholarship launch, together we will help turn a young person’s passion for music into a profession.”
Both leaders said to expect more local investments in the form of music career events for K-12 students, highlighting partner non-profits at select Fillmore events, and special performance opportunities for local musicians.
