Adding Financial Literacy to Our Schools, One Calculator at a Time

Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division – some math terms that you might use daily in a variety of ways. One of the ways Affinity Plus is adding to our community, is by giving back to local students and teachers.

The Roseville branch donated 50 TI-30Xa calculators to the Math Department at Quora Education Center in Little Canada. The school offers high levels of academic, behavioral and mental health support. Math at the school is for grade level math for 9-12th graders. In addition to subjects such as Geometry or Algebra, students also learn about budgeting, checking and savings accounts as well as good spending habits.

“We are a cooperative credit union, so it is important that we are connecting with our members, our schools, our businesses, and our community. We are grateful that our member Deborah reached out and asked us to be a part of this initiative,” said Kari Krummel, Roseville Branch manager. “We were honored to assist in ensuring the students had the proper tools needed to complete their coursework. It was great to meet the faculty and some students on delivery day and see how these calculators would impact the students and teachers there. It’s the members that drive our cooperative and this is a prime example of that partnership!”

Deborah Cram, a Special Education teacher at Quora High School, says the calculators will be put to good use and that she is grateful for such a generous donation.

“We are so very grateful for Affinity Plus giving back to their community and donating calculators to our Math Department at Quora High School,” she said. “You guys rock!”
